Ways To Lower Blood Pressure

For people with high blood pressure, medication sometimes is not sufficient to lower it to healthy levels. Consequently, they have to find additional ways help lower their blood pressure. Uncontrolled and prolonged high blood pressure can lead to serious complications; including, kidney failure, heart attack, and stroke.

So, the results of a recent study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health is very encouraging since it shows that even moderate exercise done less than 5 days a week can yield great improvement in lowering blood pressure measurements.

There is however another way to lower blood pressure and it doesn't involve drugs. In fact the American Heart Association endorses the idea that drugs are actually a fall back position. They say that drugs can be helpful "when diet and exercise" have not worked. That's right. There is actually food that helps lower blood pressure.

When cooking meals at home, do not add salt to the ingredients or if you feel it is really necessary then simply reduce the amounts. After all, there is a lot of sodium in canned and processed foods which often form a major part of many people's weekly food intake. When dining out, it can be a good idea to ask for a limited amount of salt to be added to your meal and avoid fatty, creamy sauces or desserts.

You don't have to become a food Nazi. You can break into a healthier diet gradually by setting up easy to achieve weekly goals. Restaurant food is absolutely loaded with salt and even the healthy sounding dishes like chicken are often times saturated with fat.
